24 Weeks Pregnant!!

6/11/11 - 6/17/11

Our baby's development at 24 weeks:
  • Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
I am feeling:
  • Good but BIG.  And almost in a state of disbelief.  I feel him kick and move ALL THE TIME, but I am still having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that there's a little boy in there.  And then I read my weekly update telling me that he's a foot long and I am just in a state of utter disbelief.  It just doesn't seem possible.  Symptom-wise, I am not having too much trouble.  Just some bouts of indigestion and pains in my side (mostly on the left) that my doctor says are ligaments stretching.  It can be extremely painful at times, but it doesn't usually last for too long.
I am craving:
  • My cravings have been much more manageable lately.  I still thoroughly enjoy Tropical Snos, but I haven't had the obsessed, can't think about anything else, have to have one right this minute cravings that I've had in weeks prior.  I still really like Nacho Supremes, unfortunately, and I LOVE salad bars.  Primarily because I love loading my salad with hard-boiled eggs and cheese!
I look like:
